The future of quantum
computing
We developed a new brand identity for Riverlane, an ambitious Cambridge-based software company focused on enabling quantum computers to reach their full potential and achieve ‘quantum advantage’ sooner.

Refining their strategy
To understand quantum computing and Riverlane’s business strategy, we carried out internal and external qualitative research to help frame the opportunity and engage with their audiences. Further workshop sessions focused on exploring and defining their positioning and proposition. This strategic work informed our brief for the development of tone of voice, messaging and visual identity.
Capturing impact
The visual identity builds on the transformational impact that quantum computing promises to have on our world. We worked with artist, Niklas Lundberg, to represent a qubit’s behaviour, visualising the transformation from calm outer sphere to complex moving internal elements which organise themselves and elegantly lock into place.
Relentless innovation
Our bold and intriguing visual identity reflects Riverlane’s challenging and problem-solving nature, as well as their commitment to continuous learning and discovery. We used stills from the animation as our key brand imagery, and also developed a library of secondary photography and icons to support their communication needs.
“Together have political nuance alongside amazing creative vision and brand building skills.” Rebecca Simmons, COO, Riverlane
Boosting a global reputation
Since launching the new brand, Riverlane has won a further £20M in venture capital funding and has received the most UK government funding of any quantum computing company. The company now partners with a third of the world’s quantum computer makers, boosting their global reputation and generating long-term value for the business. Riverlane has grown from 15 people to over 70 leading specialists in their fields. Many of the new recruits mentioned the new branding as triggering their initial engagement with the business.
We have defined a new visual language for the quantum software sector and provided a vision of a qubit and it’s nature. This is a bar for future quantum software companies to respond to and has been instrumental in helping Riverlane achieve its goals of recruiting the most talented people, raising funds, and gaining commitment from leading industry partners.
